Publishing, Opening and Closing quizzes

FlexiQuiz quiz maker lets you change your quiz status so that you can decide if it's accessible to respondents.

You can check the status of your classic quizzes on your main dashboard and the top right of all quizzes.


Summary of your quiz status options

  • In design: Students cannot view your quiz as it is still in the making. You can schedule email invitations and the system will send them when the quiz is published. The quiz will not show on the users Respondent portals.
  • Open: Students can view and take your test based on any rules you set, such as maximum quiz attempts, IP address restrictions and registration page requirements.
  • Closed: Students cannot access or take your quiz. You can continue to update your quiz content. Respondents can see the quiz on their portal but can only access the results page.

How to publish, open or close your quizzes

Administrators and Trainers with the relevant permission to Publish quiz can manage the quiz status.


Publishing or opening your quiz for the first time

Once you have created your quiz and it is ready for respondents to view, you will need to publish it.

  1. Create a new quiz or access and existing test that is In design.
  2. Next, go to the Publish tab.
  3. Click the Publish Quiz button to open your quiz. A window will pop up to confirm your quiz is successfully published. The quiz status is now Open.
  4. Choose how you want to share your quiz.

Closing a quiz

When you want to stop respondents from viewing or taking your quiz, you can close it.

  1. Go to the Publish tab.
  2. Press Close Quiz. A window will pop up to confirm that the quiz is now closed. button to close quiz
  3. The quiz status will change to closed. If students try to access your quiz content, they will see a message that the quiz is not open.

Reopening a quiz

You can reopen a quiz anytime to allow respondents to view your content.

  1. Go to the Publish tab.
  2. Press Reopen Quiz. A window will pop up to confirm that your quiz is now open.

The quiz status will change to open. Students can now access your quiz based on the rules you set.

How to automate opening and closing a quiz

Automating when a quiz opens and closes allows you to streamline the process to be more efficient and user-friendly. Students can only access your quiz during the designated times.

  1. To start, make your quiz.
  2. Next, go to the Configure tab and select General from the left-hand menu.
  3. Now scroll down the page to Schedule and tick the box. Flexiquiz configure screen with box to schedule when a quiz opens and closes
  4. Enter the date and time you want the quiz to open in the From boxes.
  5. Enter the date and time you want the quiz to close in the To boxes.
  6. You can now share your quiz. Respondents can only view your quiz when it opens at the scheduled time shown in the From boxes.

Other ways to control when students access your quiz

FlexiQuiz offers various settings so that you can control when students can view your quiz content.

User schedules: Set the number of days that a user can access your quiz from when the test is assigned to them.

Maximum quiz attempts: Limit the number of times students can access and take your quiz. You can also restrict students who pass from viewing the content again.


Frequently asked questions

Why can I not open or close the quiz on the Publish screen?

If you cannot open or close the quiz, please check you have not ticked the Schedule box. Go to the Configure screen and scroll down to Schedule to check the status.


Why can I not see the Publish tab option?

If you do not see a Publish tab, such as in the image below, you are making a live quiz. Players can view a live quiz when the Admin hosts the game. Press Play Live Quiz to start sharing your quiz with players.
