COMPREHENSION
You're going to read two short stories.
I want you to write down 4 'in context questions' (questions that can be answered by reading the text)/
and 3 'beyond the text' questions that cannot be answered if someone reads the text.
For example:
Joe went to the market last Sunday to buy some tomatoes and fruit.
One 'in context' question we can ask is 'Where did Joe go last Sunday? (We can answer this, we know he went to the market.)
One 'beyond the text' question we can ask is 'Who did he go with? (We can't answer this, because it doesn't mention that in the sentence.)
Seach up any words you're not sure of.

There was a young girl called Maria who lived in a beautiful castle. The castle was grand and glorious, and she was allowed to go wherever she pleased on the property: all the gardens, dining rooms, and dancing rooms that the castle possessed. However, tragically, no one was there to accompany her, and some days she would pray even to hear someone’s voice just for a second. Everyone else that lived there was able to escape the castle during the Battle of Many, but because of a curse laid upon Maria when she was born, she was unable to leave. The witch told her family that Maria would always have to remain in the castle. When her parents left, they had to make a hard decision. And that decision meant that she was alone. No one came back to find her, and she never heard from anyone she knew again. It seemed as if overnight her castle became vacant and hollow, a shell of what it used to be. She felt isolated, and didn’t know how to get out of the rut she was in.
The day was sunny but misty, and Maria decided to go to the library. She had grown fond of reading, and did it almost every day. Here, within books, is where she could hear someone else’s opinion. She was in the middle of reading the book when she saw some glittery dust on the shelf. Curious, she went to inspect it. Poof! She saw it again, and she chased and chased it until it stopped.
“Stop following me!” A small voice said.
Frank is the name of the boy in this story. He didn’t really like his name, so he asked all his friends to call him ‘Frankenstein’. He thought it was cool and unique, less of a dad’s name (because it was his dad’s name). If you didn’t know, Frankenstein is a famous book, but not many people know that Frankenstein is the scientist, not the big green monster everyone thinks of. Anyway, Frankenstein would be the perfect stage name for when he was famous.
You see, Frank, or, Frankenstein, wanted to be a rock star. He would play guitar consistently, day in and day out, and once in a while practice his singing skills when no one was home. But he couldn’t do it alone. He wanted to be in a band! The bad news was, that there was no one around him that could really play, so he could only practice by himself.
However, one day, he went by the corner shop and there was a young girl who had some drum sticks. He was nervous, but eventually asked her if she actually played the drums or she just had them for fun. He was excited when she said she played.
'This might be my chance!' Frankenstein said to himself.
After he got her number, they met up, and the rest was history. They began to meet twice a week to play together, and it was really fun. They played in her house, since drums are pretty hard to carry around. They became good friends, and it was their dream to make it big time!
